title pic Orange is the new Blue….

Posted by Davina on March 23, 2010

I had to stay up to the wee hours of the morning but I DID IT! I have a new treasury. I decided to go with orange this time, and I am glad I did. I forgot I had listed that poppy bead lat week so I fit perfectly.
Goal 1 down for this week but I got to tell you, I love making the treasuries, I may try to hunt me another one before my week is up.

Here is a link, I will try to get a screen shot and put it up before it expires. http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=120959

BTW: Currently 63 Heart my shop. I want to keep track of these too. Even without sales, Hearts are a good way to see if people are looking even if they are not buying.

I finally worked it out and the counters are working. So the goal is 100 Etsy sales in 100 Days.
This is going to be hard work, but I think I can do it. I am channeling all that advice from college and I am gonna break them down to smaller goals. Since the first thing I need to do, before I can get sales, I need people to see my stuff. My first 3 goals are as follows:
1. To create one treasury a week, highlighting 1 item of mine and 11 other items that “I LIKE” I will not add items just to get brownie points from others, I will be honest with my choices.
2. Add 2 new items to my Etsy every day. This will make things interesting since I am also getting ready for my biggest show ever but I know it is what I need to do.
3. Participate in the Critiques in the Etsy Forums for some feedback on listings and items at least 2 times a week.
These are my short term goals. I will post each time I do one so you all (Like how I talk like others are listening) can keep me on task.
Off to stalk the treasuries so I can check number 1 off my list for the week.

Since I blogged. I am getting ready for my first big show so time is short. Rather than try to update everyone separately, I am going to try to let everyone know what is going by posting on here.

Just to let everyone know, I have decided to set some solid goals got the next few months. The first one is to have 100 Etsy Sales by my next Birthday. I have created the following ticker to count them out.

Posted by Davina on July 23, 2009

So, it is Gathering week for all us beadmakers. For those of you who dont know, the Gathering is a yearly “gathering” (hence the name) of Beadmakers from all over the world. Who else is there? Most of the vendors of note. So, guess who is stuck with an oxygen concentrator that is not working properly. You guessed it, that person is Moi!!
Luckily, I have my back-up but it is smaller so I can’t work as hot as I like. I decided to use this time to work on some techniques that I usually dont do, like dots & encasements. I started with the basic black and white dot beads. Then my eldest and her friend came over and said, “These would be really cool if they were rainbows.” So I made some rainbows.

I made a few of those. I made them in black, I made them in white. I even made them with multiple rainbows going in different directions. I lived the look of the rainbows on the glass. Then I had the idea of making the rainbows into flowers. OMG!!!! I love the result. I am sure that I am not the first person to do this but I love it. For the first time, I have been inspired to make multiple bead sets, currently on ebay. I now start each torching session by making a set of these ‘Rainbow Flowers” as I call them. I am trying all different base colors and flower centers. Below you can see some of the combinations I have come up with. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Until the next time, Keep the Flame On…….

Posted by Davina on July 13, 2009

I had a great time on Saturday. While I didn’t sell a lot, the people were great. Most of the other vendors were painters and it was so wonderful to see their work. Since this was the first year for this event, there were few customers. That gave us the opportunity to visit with each other unlike most shows where you get a few head nods between people.
What I found very wonderfull was how everyone worked together. Since the kids are gone and hubby had drill, this was my first time setting up for a show all by myself. Before I even got out of my car there was a crowd there to help me unload. By the time I got there with the Oxygen Concetrator, my table was all set up. When the winds started (blowing out my flame along the way) people came running whenever a display was blown over. It was so nice to see a group of people joining together like that. It more than made up for the lack in monetary gain.
As before, I enjoyed demostrating in front of people. I need to come up with a solution for the widn but other than that, I could have easily spent the day pulling stringers and making spacers beads in front of people. I came hoem Saturday night and spent hours searching the internet for more demonstrating events.
I will let you all know where you can see me. Until then, Keep the Flame on…….

It was a fine day at the torch. I started by making some Boro vases. I don’t usually use boro and I dont think I have the tirch set right because it takes so long. I have some tubing that I have had since last Christmas and decided to see what I could do with it. I really need someone to show my how to pull points and then I have to buy some cutters for the tubing but not knowing what I am doing has never stopped me in the past. Here are the 2 vessels I made today.

Once I got done playing with the Boro, I went to work making some new pirates. I made a Monkey, a Cow, an Elephant, and a Horse. The elephant and the Horse are still cooling but here are the other two.

I also finished making my piggy heads for the Farm Town Exchange on facebook. All in all a pretty productive day. Tomorrow I am going to start working on my piece for the glass challenge. I have been toying with an idea and hopefully I can make it.
I will post pictures later. Until then, Keep the flame on….D

WOW. It has been a strange week. I have been enjoying making the Dragons no much, I have been neglecting everything else. I am very happy with where the Dragons are going. Here is one of them that I have up on eBay right now.

I am concentrating on blues, green and purples right now. I love the combination. The ones I was making today, have longer necks and are a little smaller. I will show you some pictures later.
I was also working on beaded keys today. Stop back in again to see the results.

I did not get to torch today but I had a great day at the torch yesterday. I made a couple of Kitties and a set. I love the new Cattwalk press I got. It really does great work on the sets.
I made some more of my new focals also. I really do love them. Here are a few pictures of the ones I put up on ebay.

They are a mixture of silver glass and some older odd lot glass. I am loving the experimenting. I am not always sure what glass reduces and which ones strike so I get all sorts of combination.
Time for bead, Keep the flame on……

Well no bead info for today. I plan o writing here daily but when there is no glass doings going on, I don’t know what to talk about. I am still so excited about the new bead designs and hating the bead release I have. I would show you pictures but I don’t think I should share pictures of beads being tortured and tormented.
Hopefully there will be more pictures tomorrow, I have some great beads waiting to come off the mandrels and I hope the release let them.
Till then, Keep the Flame On……
